Incompetent Ingenue 1946

A frazzled young girl lands a job with a top executive when her typing test score is accidentally swapped in this slapstick comedy.
Taking a rare turn at exercising her comedic chops Elva La Treque is charming in the role of Sally, an innocent and somewhat dim witted midwestern young lady. Growing up she has been the golden child who’s looks and smile had gotten her whatever she wanted from her parents, her teachers, and the boys. Sally moves to New York without any discernible skills thinking she will coast along as she always has and apparently she was right.
When her typing test scores are accidentally swapped with a more qualified candidate Sally finds herself knee deep in the fast paced world of New York advertising. She continues to fluke and flaunt her way through her days in a series of hilarious high jinx and strokes of luck. In the end of course she is found out and saved by romance and marriage to the most eligible bachelor in the company.
While stylistically a far cry from La Treque’s usual noir films this picture has the same warning of many post war films about the danger of women in the workplace and allowing them independence.
