Susan Evans Grove is a fine art photographer who bridges the gap between physical reality and painterly imagination. By forgoing the literal nature of traditional photography, Grove constructs "alternate realities"—images that feel familiar yet remain unrecognizable. For the past several years her work has addressed concerns about man’s interaction with the natural world and the imbalance it is creating. Drawing inspiration from the layered textures of painters like Gerhard Richter and Anselm Kiefer, her work moves beyond the desensitizing imagery of ecological collapse, using abstraction to foster a space for contemplation and perspective-shifting.

Grove’s practice is deeply influenced by her day job in scientific publishing and her lifelong love of sailing. The latter brings awareness of the danger of changing weather patterns and the former to the scientific facts concerning those changes. By withholding technical metadata and traditional context, she challenges viewers to interpret the invisible impacts of human progress through the lens of their own experience.

A graduate of the School of Visual Arts (BFA), Grove has exhibited her work across the United States, Europe, and Japan. Her photographs are held in numerous public, corporate, and private collections and have appeared in a wide range of international publications. Awards include Julia Margaret Cameron Award, New York Center for Photography Grand Prize, F2 Award School of Visual Arts. Beyond her studio practice, Grove is a dedicated curator and community builder; she is the founder of the "Thou Art Mom" collective for artist-mothers and the creator of the online gallery 24/7/art. She currently lives and works in Jersey City, NJ.
