Charmed 1951

A detective becomes obsessed with a woman he suspects of a triple homicide.

Blanc La Rocque returns to the role of Nick Holoquist, the hard working hard knocks detective from the “Gun” series. The film opens with Holoquist asleep on his desk in the precinct. The clock on the wall says 3:00 and judging by the darkness outside the precincts windows it is not the afternoon.

Enter the stunning Maria Bouteledge (played by Elva La Treque). Cut to Holoquist slowly focusing his bleary eyes as he scans the beautiful Boutledge. She tells him in a raspy voice that she has news on the triple murder he is investigating. As she tells the tale, illustrated with flashbacks, we hear her theory about what she believes happened that night. Something in the telling doesn't ring true for Holoquist though and he spends the next 48 minutes of the film obsessively trailing and building a case against her.

Charmed is a story about how when we hold onto a narrative beyond all evidence we are often led astray. Ultimately it is revealed that Boutledge was telling the truth. This discovery leads Holoquist to doubt his instincts and jeopardizes his standing in the precinct.
